Metal Injection Molding (MIM) is the Molding process which is the injection of a plasticized mixture of Metal powder and its binder into a model. It is the shape required by first mixing the selected powder with the binder, then pelleting the mixture and injecting it. Polymers impart their viscous flow characteristics to the mixture and contribute to the uniformity of forming, cavity filling, and powder filling. After forming, the binder is removed and the degreasing billet is sintered. Some sintered products may also undergo further densification treatment, heat treatment or machining. The sintered products not only have the same complex shape and high precision as those produced by plastic injection molding, but also have physical, chemical and mechanical properties similar to those of forgings. This technology is suitable for mass production of small, precise, complex 3d shape and special performance of metal parts.
